Meet author Catherine Toth-Lacey, Tzar the Paddington Poodle and Ziggy
Paddington Sydney-born Catherine Toth-Lacey is an award winning Australian writer and the author of the popular children’s series, The Adventures of Tzar the Paddington Poodle.
With gypsy blood coursing through her veins, Catherine spends as much time as she can, travelling Australia with her partner Geoffrey and their two beautiful poodles Tzar and Ziggy. It has been the poodle’s antics during their travels that have been the inspiration behind her writing.
At the core of her passion lies a deep and abiding love for animals, and this great country we call home.
She is a fervent advocate for children’s literacy and how it plays an important role in the education and development of the lives of young people. Through her stories, Catherine aims to educate children and adults about the rich indigenous wildlife of our great nation, Australia.
Catherine shares her expertise as a writer and published author by coaching and mentoring budding writers.
When she takes time out, she likes to relax by curling up on the lounge and watching a good movie, painting abstract artwork, dining out with friends or playing golf in the county.
Her first introduction to writing won Catherine the prestigious Women in Management Carla Zampatti award whilst doing her MBA at the Australian Graduate School of Business (AGSM), for her essay ‘Does the glass ceiling exist for women in Management?’
Her writing journey began around the year 2000 when she started keeping a journal which later turned into several books about the travel and holiday experiences of her eccentric poodle Tzar and their friends. Catherine called the manuscript, “The Adventures of Tzar the Paddington Poodle – Excerpts from his diary”. However, it was put in the bottom of the drawer and that’s where it sat for the next 11 years whilst she followed a career in the corporate arena.
It wasn’t until the summer of 2011 whilst holidaying in the stunning village of Mission Beach that her creative expression would no longer be suppressed and the draft manuscript of the Crocodile Encounter, the first in the series of The Adventures of Tzar the Paddington Poodle, was born and later published in the year 2014. There was no stopping the writing and hot on the tail of Crocodile Encounter was the Goanna Encounter published in 2017 and the Brahman Bull Encounter 2017.
Catherine is currently working on her next book in the series, the Tasmanian Devil Encounter which is due for release in 2018, with many more books in the series to come.
With the success of her first three books, Catherine continues to write funny and interesting stories for children’s entertainment about the poodle’s adventures and their encounter with Australia’s indigenous wildlife.
